Now in Our Showroom: Precision and Protection from Altendorf

Two of Altendorf’s most advanced machines have just arrived in our showroom — ready for hands-on demonstration and poised to bring industry-leading safety, precision, and performance to your operation.

Founded in 1906 and headquartered in Minden, Germany, Altendorf is a world market leader specializing in sliding table saws and edgebanders. With these cutting-edge machines now in our showroom, we can offer exciting new solutions for your industrial woodworking applications.

“We’re always looking for equipment that delivers true value to our customers,” says AW Machinery CEO Isaac Roth. “Altendorf’s machines are built to last, easy to use, and backed by thoughtful engineering. That’s exactly the kind of partner we want.”

At the moment, AW Machinery is proud to feature two Altendorf machines on its showroom floor — the HAND GUARD sliding table saw and the HEBROCK F 5 edgebander.

HAND GUARD

Altendorf’s HAND GUARD sliding table saw features a state-of-the-art Optical Safety System that uses two cameras and AI recognition to detect when an operator’s hands move too close to the blade — prompting the blade to stop and retract in just 0.25 seconds. It’s a safety innovation Altendorf calls “the fastest guardian angel in the world.”

Operators also benefit from LED lighting on the machine that glows green when hands remain at a safe distance from the blade. The lighting turns orange to caution users when their hands near the blade, and red when danger is imminent, prompting the blade to drop and stop.

“Altendorf has been the industry benchmark for sliding table saws for decades,” says Roth. “Their machines are second to none in quality of build, and the innovation behind the HAND GUARD safety system is a game changer. We know it is a perfect fit for our customers and our showroom.”

HEBROCK F 5 EDGEBANDER

The second Altendorf machine in our showroom is the HEBROCK F 5 — a high-performance edgebander that delivers flawless edge finishing across a wide range of materials—including blockboards, chipboard, MDF, multiplex, and solid wood.

The HEBROCK F 5 can edge 10 meters in one minute and is easy to operate, thanks to its 15” LED touchscreen with its easy-to-read display and integrated 3D feature.

Notable features include:

  • WhisperCut pre-milling cutter with interchangeable diamond points

  • Cross-cut saw and milling unit

  • Flat scraper with dual keying

  • Radius scraper

  • Release-agent spraying unit

  • Interchangeable glue pot that heats in just 3.5 minutes

This is just a glimpse of what the F 5 offers. Visit Altendorf’s website to explore the full list of features that set this edgebander apart.

SEE ALTENDORF IN ACTION (AND IN PERSON)

Stop by our showroom to see live demonstrations of the HAND GUARD and HEBROCK F 5 in action. Our experts are ready to answer your questions and show you how Altendorf’s machines can help you scale your operation with confidence.

Our showroom, which is located at 6161 Mt. Hope Rd. in Apple Creek, is open Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM EST. For more information, call us at (330) 778-0020. We look forward to seeing you and showing you what Altendorf’s machines can do for you!

AW Machinery: Engineering Solutions for Industry Gaps

When AW Machinery’s employees become aware of a customer need that cannot be addressed by existing industrial woodworking machinery, they take it as an invitation to innovate.

“We’ve seen gaps in the market where standard, off-the-shelf equipment doesn’t work for some customers’ applications — they need something more specialized,” CEO Isaac Roth explains. “So we’ve invested in our own brand — Stonewood USA — to fill some of those gaps by either designing new concepts or modifying equipment from manufacturers.”

The company builds the resulting innovations at its Apple Creek facility and sells them alongside machines manufactured by industry-leading brands. The goal? To offer customers the most comprehensive range of solutions for their needs.

New Concept: The High Production Return Conveyor System

One of the company’s most helpful innovations, a decade in the making, is the High-Production Return Conveyer System. With its multi-direction receiving deck, the machine helps ripsaw operators by simplifying their workflow.

When operating a ripsaw to cut boards to produce what the woodworking industry calls “glue-up panels,” the operator sometimes needs to make multiple cuts on the same board to square its edges.

“Without a return system on your ripsaw, you need a guy on the other side to manually return boards to the operator,” AW Machinery engineer Alan Troyer explains. “So we built a system that automatically returns the boards.”

With the return system, the operator can send newly ripped boards in two directions after completing cuts. Finished boards go to the right.

“If he needs to cut it again,” Troyer continues, “he’ll flip the switch and send it to the left.” The conveyor system then returns the board to the operator for additional cuts.

This system can be used in conjunction with a variety of rip saws, offering flexibility to shops interested in improving their capabilities.

New Concept: Table Sander with Auto Travel

“One thing we really like to do at AW Machinery is listen to our customers,” says CEO Roth. “We learn about their pain points and help them find the right equipment solution to address those pain points and make their business more efficient.”

One table manufacturer’s pain point? Sanding.

“A local customer came in one day ten or twelve years ago and said he wanted to eliminate hand sanding,” Alan Troyer says. “People’s arms get tired.”

This led Troyer to create a table sander with auto travel

“It’s not common for shops to have a wide, expensive belt sander they can feed their tables through,” Roth says. “So Alan created this machine with a wide, horizontal belt that circulates through it, and you place the slab you want to sand underneath it.”

When the operator engages the belt drive, the machine uses compression to apply pressure to the sanding head, which the operator can then move back and forth over the length of the slab while the machine automatically travels across its width.

“Before this, operators would use a hand sander or orbital sander to work across the table,” Roth says. “It’s meticulous and takes a lot of time. Alan’s machine is probably 80% faster, so it increases productivity. It also results in a smoother, better finish on the product.”

Modifying Existing Equipment

Roth is proud of the work AW Machinery does to adapt machines for the Plain community.

“Most of the machines in the industry run on electricity,” he explains. “We convert them to run on alternative power that is approved within some Amish churches.”

That power source is an 80-horsepower diesel engine that drives what is known as a line shaft — a rotating shaft that runs throughout a shop, supplying power to multiple machines.

“We replace equipment motors with direct drive to line shaft to run at the proper gear speeds,” Roth continues. “Over the past ten years, we have done hundreds of conversions like these. We honor and respect their faith and try to help shops do what they need to do while staying within their church’s practices.”

AW Machinery Appoints Isaac Roth, Leader with Fortune 500 Experience, as CEO

AW Machinery Welcomes Isaac Roth as CEO

AW Machinery is pleased to announce the appointment of Isaac Roth as CEO. Roth spent the past 20 years working for a small, family-run business that eventually became part of a Fortune 500 company.

A Vision for Growth and Leadership

With decades of experience in marketing, sales, and business strategy, Roth steps into this new leadership role at AW Machinery with a wealth of experience and a clear vision, too.

“My goal is to provide stability and backend business management to support this company so it can continue to thrive and grow as a premier supplier of industrial woodworking equipment,” Roth says. “I aim to work with the equipment partners we represent to ensure that we are providing customers with the best solutions and service at the best prices possible.”

AW Machinery has grown steadily over the course of its ten-year existence. To encourage this growth to continue, owner Dan Troyer and the rest of the company’s leadership concluded that the business needed additional leadership.

“We need to be proactive in making the right decisions,” Troyer explains. “Ultimately, we need more leadership and mindfulness about where the company is headed, with intentional planning and a good plan for the future. With Isaac Roth as our new CEO, we will have a leader who is dedicated to the future development and growth of AW Machinery — welcome aboard, Isaac!”

Strengthening Customer Relationships

Roth’s focus on business management will allow Troyer — who will remain with the company — to focus on customer relationships. As a matter of fact, Troyer’s customer-centric approach to the business is what attracted Roth to the company in the first place.

“In my opinion, the best thing about AW Machinery — hands down — is our customer consulting and long-term customer service,” Roth says. “This team is exceptional at understanding our customers’ unique needs and keeping them up to date with the latest industrial woodworking equipment innovations to drive their businesses forward.”

A Journey Built on Trust and Experience

Roth found himself at AW Machinery’s doorstep, interviewing for the CEO position because of his former boss of 20 years.

“When my former General Manager retired, he started consulting for local businesses, and AW Machinery was one of the companies he helped,” Roth says. The General Manager soon realized Roth would be a good fit for the company. “Twenty years of working with him led to this position.”

But it was the people at AW Machinery who sold him on the company in the end.

“I had peace deciding to leave a 20-year career, knowing that I would be joining an incredible team of hardworking, knowledgeable and God-honoring people” Roth says. “It’s an absolute blessing to work with the people of AW Machinery who prioritize their customers first while honoring a higher kingdom with their business. I’ll continue to make sure we keep those priorities first going forward.”

Committed to Excellence and Future Growth

Under Roth’s leadership, AW Machinery remains committed to selling cutting-edge industrial woodworking equipment, building relationships with customers that endure over the long haul, and continuing to grow over the decade to come.
